The art of Oriental Rug weaving is a craft that dates back 2500 years. The oldest hand-knotted pile rug was found in the Pazyryk Valley in Siberia. It had been preserved in solid ice since the 5th century BC, until it was discovered in the late 1940's. It measures approximately 6 feet square, and can be viewed in the Hermitage Museum in Leningrad. Presently, true Oriental Rugs are made in areas that include the Near East, Middle East, Far East, the Balkans, and Northern Africa. They are hand-woven with natural fibers consisting of a wool or silk pile.
I have purchased Spicher and Company floor mats before. They are great and look beautiful especially in old houses. There are so may lovely patterns to choose from and they are so durable. RDR was a company I’d never heard of. I have a matching SUNDIAL rug I purchased from another source that has since gone out of business. I was thrilled when I found a new source. RDR said shipping of the rug would be 2-3 months. It arrived 3 days before the 3 month date. Communication with the company was excellent and my emails for updates were returned almost immediately. All this being said I few things to be aware of. My rug cost more than $5000 and RDR takes your money immediately. As most companies wait until shipping, this was not the case. Credit card companies will not allow you to contest a charge after 3 months. I became quite anxious as the deadline grew near for any refund if the rug didn’t appear. All turned out well, the company is legit and they delivered as promised. I would order from them again.
